Patrick Gomez 4 Sheriff presents a new movement piece by Stephen Lichty and Neil Marcus. The performance will commence at 4:00 PM on Saturday, January 31 at the Neutra VDL Research House in Silverlake. Lichty and Marcus have both directly experienced dystonia, a neurological disposition that causes involuntary movements, muscle contractions, twisting, repetitive motions, and corresponding mental intensities. The artists will poeticize this dystonic noise, redirecting intensities to different parts of their bodies, minds, and at the house itself. The artists have been collaborating since 2010 and this will be their second public performance together.

Neil Marcus (1954) is a poet, dancer, and icon of US disability culture, living and working in Berkeley, California. Marcus has danced internationally since the 1980’s, received a United Nations Society of Writers Medal of Honor for his play Storm Reading, and has been included as a seminal voice in the Artists with Disabilities Oral History Project at UC Berkeley, funded by the NEA. His poem, Disabled Country, has been a keystone of the disability arts movement. Cripple Poetics: A Love Story, a collaboration with Petra Kuppers, was published in 2008 by Homofactus Press. Special Effects, a compendium of Marcus’s zine releases, was re-published in 2011 by Publication Studio.

Stephen Lichty (1983) is an artist living and working in Brooklyn, New York. Recent exhibitions include a solo show at Foxy Production, New York (2014); Objects and Thin Air, Foxy Production, New York (2014); Culm, Night Gallery, Los Angeles (2013); The Museum Problem, Frutta, Rome (2012); Harlan, Laracuete, Lichty / Earth, New Capital, Chicago (2012).
