Patrick Gomez 4 Sheriff  gleefully presents a Group Show including artworks from Ben Foch, Justin John Greene, Asher Price/Sofia Arreguin, and Justin Thomas Schaefer.  The works included in the show vary between drawing, painting and sculpture.  Ben Foch presents a new sculptural wall work from his Leather Daddy series which formally appropriates culturally loaded signifiers reconfiguring them into  a surrealist totem.  Justin John Greene will present a new drawing and a new oil painting.  The cyan colored monochromatic illustration, features a litany of figures articulated in a “classic” cartoon style reminiscent of Tex Avery, Chuck Jones and John Kricfalusi.  The more nuanced style of his small oil painting references some of the technical strategies featured in popular animation.  This confounding still life features a series of murky objects set atop a vibrant airbrushed background.  Asher Price and Sofia Arreguin have collaborated on a number of sculptural projects and also perform together in the band Personal Best.  The work included here is a cast Tomato Pie pizza and is repurposed as a functioning table.  Justin Thomas Schaefer, lovingly known to the greater Los Angeles art community as “Jshay” presents two new printed works.  Prominently featuring “smile now/cry later” masks referring both to a history of Southern California Lowrider culture and iconography, which has had a great impact on the artists’ sensibility largely because of his fathers career as a car detailer; the symbols also reflect Schaefer’s vision of the artist as a kind of practical joker.

The Gallery will host a reception for the artists beginning at 7pm May 1st, 2015 and will extend into the late hours of the evening.  We will be serving Tomato Pie Pizza and Tecate.
